  • During winter you may need warm clothes and your ski, if you decide to visit the nearby mountains (30 minutes away with public transportation).

You should avoid coming in January and February because these are coldest months.

Traditional – Narodna nosia (women) and Poturi (men)

Modern – Jeans and T-shirt (men) and dress (women)

School uniforms are not required in Bulgaria. However, bigger schools have a dress code and a uniform for official celebrations.

The uniform is different for every school.

Typical Bulgarian dances are called horo and rachenitsa. There are different types of horo in different Bulgarian areas. They can be dances on Bulgarian folklore (typical Bulgarian music).

Bulgarians are saying β€œNo” by nodding their head and β€œYes” by turning it left-right which is exactly opposite to the usual way. So, be careful. πŸ™‚

The best sour milk (jogurt) is from Bulgaria, because it contains special β€œgood” bacteria called Lactobaccilus Bulgaricus.

Bulgarian rose water is popular all over the world. It is used by the perfumery industry.

The special colours are white, green and red, because these are the colours of our national flag. White is the symbol of peace and freedom,Β green is the symbol of nature and red is the symbol of all people who gave their life for the Bulgarian freedom.

7 and 9 are usually considered lucky numbers.Β 7 because it is the number of the days in one week. 9 because it is the number of months during pregnancy.

2 is usually considered as unlucky, mainly because it is the lowest score in school.
